Ben Dumbauld is a writer, percussionist, and composer living in Manhattan, New York, the traditional territory of the Lenape People. 

He is the Director of Content at Teachrock.org, and teaches at Hunter College.

He received his PhD in Ethnomusicology at the CUNY Graduate Center.

His writing on U.S. and Romanian popular music has appeared in American Music Review, The Journal of Appalachian Studies, Relief, Ethnomusicology Review, The SAGE Encyclopedia of Music and Culture, Cassette Gods, and the collected volume Death and the Rockstar.

He runs a small label and creates music under the names International Surrealist Bulletin and Synth Bard.
